| Still here. Barely... |
[01 Dec 2008|08:55am] |
First, the good news. We're up to sixty-seven wish lists published so far over in wish_list. I just finished updating the Master list so if you'd like to take a look you can find it HERE. It makes me really happy to see the comm so active, spreading a little joy, and helping people connect with one another, is why it's there.
Keeping the list updated is about the only fannish thing I've had time for lately; I failed pretty miserably with mini_nanowrimo this year. With everything going on in rl I've had no time for me so that translates into no time to write or do any artwork. Once I've got mom settled for the night, and things have quietened down enough for me to have some time at the computer, I'm just too tired to write. One of the side-effects of a Lupus flare-up is exhaustion and it's been hitting me pretty hard with this one.
Plus, mom's sick. She's got a bad respiratory infection which has progressed to just this side of pneumonia. I took her to see her lung doc last week and we've got her on antibiotics and meds to thin out her secretions so the congestion is easier to cough up. Because of her illness she's had several fairly bad bouts with confusion the last couple of weeks. I can get her out of it over the course of the day but it's still pretty terrifying when it happens.
Which led right into the other thing; I failed at being strong the other day. I was helping her with her bath and I just started crying. We talked about things and got in some really good hugs but it was still hard. I love my mom so much, she truly has been one of my best friends all of my life. I know she's winding down, that I probably won't have her with me for much longer, and I'm just not ready. She loves this time of year, somehow I'll make sure this is a really good Christmas for her.
Between my and mom's illness I've had no time at work lately so things are really tight. Whether I have the energy or not I have to get things posted and sold over the next few weeks just to help us survive. I'm hoping I can get a lot done today if things go okay with mom.
Okay, I'm shutting up now so I can go and get her bathed. Thanks for listening. I promise, next time I post will be lighter. It sure helps just knowing that you guys are here to listen, though. More than I can ever say.
*hugs*

It's been so long since I last posted. I hope everyone had a fabu Thanksgiving. Mine was okay but strange near the end.
Wednesday
I left work right in the middle of trying to fix a big Excel spreadsheet error. Pray for me today because it doesn't look any less scary than it did on Wednesday.
Thursday
I got up early and went out for some coffee. You heard it...coffee. I had a half decaf iced coffee. My reasoning was that I was going to be screwed up by having turkey so a little caffeine was not going to hurt me.
My sister and her nephew arrived like really early. Thank God we actually ate early. I spent most of the time with my sister while my brother showed my nephew stuff. having long drawn out odd conversations with my sister made me want more caffeine. I can't even go into the stuff she told me because it's stupid and annoyed me. Around 3:30pm she headed off to the bathroom and when she got out she called her son and said..."We're leaving." It wasn't anything I said it was just her ready to leave. Okay. P gave her half the turkey and they were on their merry way.
Friday
I relaxed and did nothing. My favorite thing. There was plenty on the Tivo. I'm not a person who shops on Black Friday. I don't like crowds.
Saturday
I went to WW and I had gained. Big surprise given it was less than 48 hours after Thanksgiving. I was also "fluid woman" and not one pill was helping that. After the meeting I went to the Mall. I'm sorry but I was not impressed with the sales. I looked and was getting irritated. Nothing fit me. See going shopping when you're retaining water and trying to get rid of the biggest meal of the year just didn't work at all. I walked out of the mall with a half decaf iced coffee. I bought zip.
Sunday
I walked a lot. I also had a big iced coffee without the decaf. The nails were done. Later in the day I had the best nap since giving up caffeine. I'm convinced that the best sleep aid for me is coffee. Some people feel energized by it but after the initial jolt...it relaxes me. I think that from now on every Sunday I will have real coffee. The rest of the week it's water, Wyler’s and tea.
I am slowly getting caught up on the whole Tivo experience. I have shopped for more Christmas presents online this morning. P is about to kill me because he doesn't know what to get me for Christmas and I have no idea what I want. Saturday I was supposed to scope out potential stuff for me. I didn't see anything. I have everything...sort of. I have a couple of weeks to figure it out.
Oh, I read absolutely nothing over the couple of days off. I have to get back on track this week.

The other day I found a picture of my ggg, grandfather's grave. On it was his daughter Sarah C. XXXXXXX. I could not find her in any of my research or resources. Why? Well I had only ever seen her referred to as Sally C. I was able to find her marriage on NEGHS. This in turn lead me to the 1850 census(the year she died) with three children. Persistent aren't I. This was all done before work this morning. I loves me my genealogy. ;)

I can' wait until I get out of work today. This week has been a bit screwed up and not just for me. Yesterday seemed to be the day every one forgot something. It was keys and security badges and my favorite...cell phone charger. I thought I was doing well. I had my keys and my badge but I was on one bar and my cell phone charger was on my kitchen table. I was able to find a kind soul to lend me theirs but the company as a whole was screwed up.
Now that I'm actually working a real report I'm finding potentially major issues. I also keep coming across more of my cube-mate's reviews stuck in the middle of my report. She's not getting it. She's marking things that are correct... wrong and things that are glaringly wrong...correct. I've showed her and she has sent the request to the manager to remove them from the reports and the databases. The problem is she is looking at what other people are doing and not really understanding how something is supposed to be done. As I have said numerous times this is not a cookie cutter process. It requires a lot of industry as well as regulatory knowledge. It also requires a ton of problem solving. Yeah, yesterday was a joy...not.
I'm also glad to be off a few days because all the construction going on around me is driving me batty. All the banging and drilling is not conducive to concentrating on one's job. The lights flickering on and off does not help either. They have torn walls down, built rooms and moved fifty people into the newly renovated space. By Monday they will be expanding the cafeteria and building conference rooms. Supposedly by next Friday the 5th we will be packing to move into our new space. My cube is about fifteen feet from where I'm sitting now. The bathrooms are still not finished. They had put the ladies room back together temporarily but it isn't pretty. The place is leaking like a sieve and it's just indescribable.
To add to the joy of the day it was my cube-mate's birthday. My manager booked a conference room to have a cake a 3pm. No offense but I hate when he does that. Why? I hate it because it means that I end up staying later than I'm supposed to. The result was I missed two of my buses and had to walk ten minutes in torrential rains. I'm usually home by 4:10. I was home at 4:50 and soaked. He does the same thing every month with the stupid team meetings. Most of the meetings could be gotten through in half an hour but because people go totally off topic and waste time it's almost two hours.
Thanksgiving
My house is all set and my sister and nephew are probably going to arrive around 11am. I'm not evil but I can't wait until they go home. My sister is a very annoying person. I'm probably an annoying person too but I try to tone it down. She says things that make you want to cringe or slap her around. I'll be good. I won't say anything. Don't worry if she pushes it P has no problem telling her to calm down or cut it out. She drives him crazy all the time. The hell of retirement...her daily call.
Television
I was busy when I got home so there was only time to watch CSI:Miami. Seriously, I've had dreams that were better written, acted and were actually interesting. P and I just sat there saying how terrible a show it was. Btw, Ryan was color coordinated with the new ME what ever her name is. Can someone tell me why there is so much crime in this country when CSI:Miami seems to solve major cases in one day? You get to work around 8 or so in the morning and by five you've found a serial killer and a few more people tied to the case. All the loose ends of the morning are tied up by five. Magic. The down side of the show is having to see a lot of terrible plastic surgery. Does anyone think they can get another season out of this show? I'm thinking no unless they get new writers or go on the road or something.
Tea
Darn...I just noticed I'm running out of tea at work. Yes, I'm still on the no caffeine thing. I would probably kill for a large iced coffee. I've actually had decaffeinated iced coffee and it's totally not the same. One thing I now know from drinking all this tea. I hate fruit teas. I like herb teas like chamomile and peppermint. Ginger tea is to die for. I've stayed away from green tea because of the caffeine.
Lastly, is anyone having problems actually getting into Live journal this morning? I couldn't get on so I'm going to woefully behind in my posts. Hopefully this posts through the lj client.

I had some sense of accomplishment yesterday. I'm in shock and will have to take a couple of days this week to recover. ;)
My manager gave me actual work to do. 600 reviews which were a nice mix of people reviews and computer system ones. I was getting very discouraged by my job because of his parceling out the work the way he was doing. He was giving the "simple" stuff to the new people. The problem with this concept of "simple" or "easy" is that this is the audit samples where we find the most problems. This is where we find out if our computer system is configured correctly or not. One of the people this is being given to has never really worked in the computer system or the industry before. I've been given all the people reviews. People are making the same exact mistake over and over again until it makes you crazy. Yesterday, I was in a groove because I was able to relax and get some actual production. I also found a couple of problems.
I'm reading Schopenhauer's Telescope by Gerard Donovan. It's too early to form an opinion on it. The story is about two characters on either side of a civil war in an unnamed European village. Their characters meet in a snow covered field. One man is a baker and the other a teacher. The baker has to dig a hole while the teacher watches. They talk about their lives, philosophy, good and evil, etc. For some reason it's kind of reminding me of The Sunflower: On the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness by Simon Wiesenthal. I'll probably elaborate on it at some point.
Coolness
I'm still doing the genealogy and I found something this morning. I was on the Find A Grave site and I typed in my grandmother's maiden name. I found her great grand parents graves. They're buried in Derry New Hampshire. Recently I found a newspaper obit for her gggrandfather. He had been in his orchard picking apples and he fell and broke his neck. That was in 1846. I also noticed that there is a daughter buried with them...with birth and death dates and a married name. Someone wrote a genealogy of everyone with my grandmother's maiden name. Now I'm going to have to take the book out of the library again. My grandmother is in the book and it goes all the way back to her ancestor who came to New England in 1655. Btw, the headstone on the grave seems to be pristine. It's 162 years old but it looks like it was just put in.
